I'M BACK! My blogging itch has been bothering me for a reeeeaaaallllly long time, and then it got to the point where I had to think on what should be a comeback post. But that was too difficult, so I'm going with an easy one, which means, I don't have to be critical and all that.

I mentioned before that I have a thing where I may be attracted to watch a show if a song in the preview catches me. That is what happened with this drama, Fall in Love With Me (because a generic title like that makes it sooo easy to search for). And also maybe I have a teeny tiny teensy weeny secret thing for Aaron Yan. Stop judging.

Crack of the Century!

Have you ever encountered a show so utterly perfect, it is like it's been tailor-made for you? That's how I feel when I watch this show, where the story unfolds like a well-worn romance novel, the one that looks like origami from all the handling. And by perfect, of course I don't mean in a flaw-less way (a ne plus ultra it is not), but a show with a compendium of tropes and stock characters I luuuurrve, played out *just* the way I like it. Predictable, but in a good way.

In case you missed the subtext: THIS SHOW IS FRIGGIN' AWESOME AND OMG EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!! Crack, thy name is Bride of the Century, and your existence has me lying in bed, ruminating on the possibility of time travel, because dammit, I need my episodes NOW.

Sketchy summary: Mr. Darcy meets Spunky Girl, thus resulting in The Thawing of the Ice Man, and hijinks ensue!

Of crack shows and drama marathons.

Something very disturbing is happening. Despite my misgivings towards twdramas in general, I found myself in the midst of wanting to watch one. Drat, I thought, it's that pesky time of the year again. Usually, I'd stick to re-watching some of my old favorites (see above), but this time, I wanted something new. Preferably something I could not recite the lines to. So in an uncharacteristic burst of optimism, I downloaded a bunch of twdrama pilots, all but ready for a drama marathon.

I'll have you know, twdramas are not my usual cup of tea. I used to feel very strongly towards twdramas, and only this Malaysianism could adequately express my anguish: Beh tahan!! Especially the string of idol dramas that imploded during the 00's, where watching one would put me in physical pain. Everything, from the acting to the plot, felt so forced and unnatural, and by the thirty-second mark I'd be dying from secondhand embarassment. Sticking to kdramas seemed like the wiser (not to mention self-loving) choice.

Spoiler In Words: Secret Episode 16

OMG it's the finale already!?! I still have 6-ish episodes to catch up on - which is entirely intentional on my part - somehow, with this show, I really wanted to do a proper marathon and enjoy it in its entirety, rather than getting caught up with the weekly hype. Whatever the ending may be, I hope it's the kind that stays with me, long after it ends (in a good way, of course).

Gosh, this show I tell you - once again, I'm getting sucked into Kim Eun Sook's magic. There's just something so fairytale-like in her stories, but never so far-fetched that you scoff at its ludicrousness.

Titles can be so misleading, posters too. Because despite its vibrant beach setting, the show feels sepia in tone. Yamapi's retrospective narration at the beginning and end of each episode lends a tinge of melancholy and nostalgia to this slice of life gem. It's no melo, but it's certainly going to wring the same emotions out of you.

Okay I know I'm in the minority that cares about So Yeon (if there's any at all lmao), but seeing this shit go down between the other three is kind of inevitable and I JUST WANT MY BB GIRL TO GET OUT OF THERE SAFELY IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK
