Marry Me, Mary OST: I Will Promise You

I'd be the first to say that Marry Me, Mary turned out to be heavily flawed - but I'll also be the first to say it turn out to be one of my favorites as well. A mania drama for me in every sense (mania is defined as:  An irrational but irresistible motive for a believe or action). Well, isn't that right. Irrational but irresistible. Right down to the last episode. And right now as I'm listening to I Will Promise You, a song originally written by Fukuyama Masaharu, I felt like translating it. So here you are.
At first I liked Kara's Superstar, just because I heard it first. Please, My Bus! and Hello Hello was catchy and appropriate for the scenes, but in the end the keepers are the slow ones - Mu Gyul's theme and I Will Promise You will be on my laptop forevah!
More on the original song - It's called Naitari Shinai De (i.e. Don't Cry) written by the man himself, Fukuyama Masaharu and arranged by Takayuki Hattori. What's best is, the lyrics here retains the essence from the original song too:

I Will Promise You - Jang Geun Seuk

Don't just sit there and cry; please hold my hand
I'll protect your everything
I won't let you go and leave you alone,
because my heart is already in yours
I want to understand your every heartache
I want to convey you this warmth

Don't just sit there and cry; please look into my eyes
Those past memories will tell you
All the things that you've lost; let's just forget it all
For you I'll stand here forever
I want to understand your every heartache
I want to convey you this warmth

I will promise you
Because of you I made this promise
I will protect you; forever and ever
In your eyes oh; you'll have me too
It's fine even if its a few times, as long as we start over it's okay
Please do not doubt this precious dream

I will promise you,
Because of you I made this promise
I will protect you; forever and ever
In your eyes oh; you'll have me too

Forget all the sadness; hold on to my hand,
I'll embrace your everything
I won't let you go and leave you alone,
because my heart is already in yours
I promise you

Chloe Says: Hey, on the subject of Fukuyama Masaharu, have you guys watched Galileo? In my opinion, it's his best role to date and it's one of my top ten favorite j-doramas of all time; please do not miss it! ;)

Marry Me, Mary! Finale Tonight

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Today's the big day, and god knows what will happen. Episode 15 was not anti-climatic AT ALL. It felt like the sort of havoc you would expect in the middle of a series, but clearly Writer Go had no intention of following the norm. Makjang till the end, eh?
Happier times...

All in all, I think the actors had a good experience. Moon Geun Young said: "We've worked very hard to bring a drama that brings warmth and comfort to the audience. I'm glad I got to portray the optimistic and headstrong Mary."

Jang Geun Seuk who has significantly contributed to the OST commented: "This time after partcipating in the OST, I've become much more interested in music. Although many things had happened to Kang Mu Gyul after meeting Mary, he always has always persevered in making music. That made me reconsider the things that I should not give up as an actor."
Mary Stayed Out All Night's finale will be broadcasting tonight at 9.55 PM (KST).

Spoiler In Words: Marry, Me Mary! Ep. 15 + X-mas Greetings From JGS

First posted: (14/12/2010), Edited (25/12/2010)
HOLEY M...You wouldn't believe it even if I told you. Heck, even I don't believe it myself. Santa came to me 4 o'clock in the morning today. He made Writer Go revise the plot for Episode 15. THAT made this groggy-eyed hellochloe wide awake at 6 in the morning.
No new news as to what is it so far, it's only a notice stating to the effect that the spoiler is in revision. I don't know much about the technicalities about producing a drama, but if they were to change it isn't it a wee bit late?

Thus my conclusion that it will be more of an editing change rather than a re-filming one. Which drives me crazy, 'cause now it's potentially shittier than before (bad plot and now choppy editing?!!). I wasn't actually that surprised over this storyline. Perhaps I stopped caring about this drama as a whole, what I gave a damn about was the three leads there, and now that this is happening, I'm quite worried for them...

Thinking Mary would wait for him, Mu Gyul was confused to see her together with Jung In. He's unsure of her feelings for him.

Mu Gyul couldn't fathom, did he sold out himself and his music for Mary? Seeing how they had went through some rough patches together, how could she change into an entirely different person overnight and happily spend time with Jung In?

Mary explained that she went to ask Jung In for a divorce, but no matter how she explained to him, he would not believe it.

Meanwhile, Jung In wishes for Mary to understand his true feelings for him, he hopes the JI workshop will bring them closer together. At the workshop, people keep pairing Mary and Jung In together, and that made her feel uncomfortable with Jung In.

Seo Joon tells her not to stay in between Jung In and Mu Gyul anymore. Mary is in pain trying to sort out her own feelings. She went up the mountain and told herself she wouldn't hurt Mu Gyul anymore: She would go back to the time before she loved him.

Seeing Mary like this, Jung In knows he wouldn't be able to reach her with his feelings. He says he wishes for things to be the way it was; on the way home...

The sky is turning darker, and the both of them get lost.

Mu Gyul who finds that they are not back yet, ran to the workshop in a huff.
Jung In sees Mary slipping, he hugs her and they roll downhill together...

Chloe Says: Oooh what is with this climatic development; I feel like I'm climbing up a mountain myself. Most importantly: How are they going to tie things up in time?

At the beginning of M3, I've predicted that Mary would end up being independent (like Mary's wish in the start of the series: graduate and live well with her father) before she meets Mu Gyul again.

But this thought o'mine was promptly shot down by my soompi friends, so I forgot about it myself. Now that this is happening, one can't help but wonder...
hellochloe wishes you a very Merry Christmas too!

Spoiler In Words: Marry, Me Mary! Episode 14

JGS on stage is the hottest JGS. Agree?
Mary witnessed the whole kidnapping process and brings the police with her. Mu Gyul is finally rescued, but in the process My Gyul's arm got injured again. During Mu Gyul's kidnapping, Wonderful Day's showcase almost got cancelled but luckily Mu Gyul made it in time, and the showcase was a success.\(^o^)/

It was at this moment when Mu Gyul publicly confesses his love to Mary and serenades her with "Hello Hello" (I may have romantize it a bit here, can't help it). Mary's dad sees the three of them living together in Jung In's house, and got such a shock he fainted. They voice their views and tried to convince him, but dad finds it unacceptable.

Jung In's dad forces Jung In to send out the wedding invitations, and pressures him to quickly proceed with his marriage to Mary. But Jung In tells him that he can't marry her just because of his dad's selfish motives. This is the first time Jung In confronted his own father.
Meanwhile, because of the success of Wonderful Day's showcase, Mu Gyul's popularity soared to new heights the very next day. As a result, he got a lot busier and spent less time with Mary. Mu Gyul's birthday is on Christmas Eve. He decides to celebrate it with Mary right after his gig ends. But things did not turn out that way.

Because Mu Gyul failed to keep his promise, Mary went to find Jung In, hoping he could help her fulfil her Christmas present wish.

Chloe Says: Like what I said before in my Hall of Fame, Won Soo Yeon's stories specializes in forced live-in together situations that arises from Huge Gaping Plot Holes and near nonsensical story developments, but really, who watches kdramas for cinema verite anyway? I want more OTP moments!!

Spoiler In Words: Marry, Me Mary! Episode 13

It defies the imagination, it truly does...I can't believe this is happening to my favorite trio. Someone pinch me, please.

After finding out the truth about the ring, Mary's dad rushed to Mu Gyul's house in a huff. Mary's live-in situation with Mu Gyul was exposed, and the three engage in some chase-and-run in the middle of the night.

Although Mary's dad suspects of them cohabitating, due to various reasons, he decides to take a step back and observe things for a while. Jung In thinks they're in danger of being found out (damn right, JI!), hence his proposal for Mu Gyul to stay in his house together. Thus begins the convenient but tension-laden situation.

Jung In's dad raises plans about Mary's marriage to Jung In; Mu Gyul who sees Mary in a wedding dress with Jung In, gets mad and turns to leave. Mary chases after Mu Gyul to subdue him, but there she encountered Mu Gyul's mom that made her broke up with him.
Jung In is in sorrow when he found out about his dad's past with Mary's mom. Mary who's clueless about what's making Jung In sad, feels awkward and left out over Jung In's sudden cold shoulder (read: polite bastard treatment)

Wonderful Life's MV for its OST begins filming. Seo Joon is puzzled over Jung In's behavior, as well as Mary and Mu Gyul's ambiguous relationship. In the middle of the filming, one of the props falls down and Mu Gyul dives in to save Mary who's in the danger zone.

Chloe Says: Holy cow! Is this episode jam packed with happenings or what? From the length alone you can tell...this ain't going to be a smooth ride. Ties get broken, people get hurt and tension is at an all time high. But it's safe to say the OTP gets to reunite, thanks to the deus ex machina. Falling props in kdramas never fail to expose true love. And that's what our OTP has. True Love.

Spoiler In Words for Marry Me, Mary! Episode 12

Mary and Mu Gyul finally get to start their life together under one roof. However, even from Day One it wasn't smooth sailing (to be honest, I didn't expect anything less. Trouble and Chaos has a way with this OTP)

Mu Gyul's mom sells Mary's ring to go to Paris, but unexpectedly met with a scam organization. Mary's dad finds out about this, and hurriedly heads to Mu Gyul's house. He nearly finds out the truth about 'em cohabitating, but luckily they managed to escape with Jung In's help (thank you, my boy!).

While Mu Gyul and Jung In teams up for work purposes, but they're still unable to accept each other's relationship with Mary. Though childish, the battle for her heart is still ongoing (ooh, another
Battle of the Boys! Bring it on!)

As the Perfect Band band members listen to Mu Gyul's new composition (that should be "Hello Hello" or a pre-"Hello Hello"), they realized the new song has derailed from the rock genre, and were seriously disappointed with him.
Jung In's dad is surprised that Mary's not wearing the ring that he personally gave her. Mary's dad's afraid that he would find out the truth, thus he goes after Mu Gyul's mom to get the ring back.

But! (oh my god, I'm genuinely surprised, what drug did she take?) No measures were necessary as Mu Gyul's mom retrieved the ring back and even returned it to Mary. The unsuspecting Mary wears the ring and attends a family gathering with Jung In.

Chloe Says: Sorry if they're any typos or minor errors. I'm kind of in a rush as I have my exams in less than an hour's time. I know right? I'm must be crazy to be this crazy for my favorite couple.
This episode sounds promising with lots of potential *squeal* worthy moments of Mary's interaction with Mu Gyul AND Jung In. Can I just fast forward the kids' parents part? I really couldn't give rat's ass about them. As for Mu Gyul's momma, I don't think I can find it in myself to forgive her although she returns the ring. 'Cause she should never have taken it in the first place.

Marry Me, Mary! in Manga (Part II)

And the cuteness continues. Now that the OTP acknowledge their love for each other, we might be going uphill with the Romeo and Juliet theme, but no prob, cuteness never ceases in M3's fan art.
Please don't abandon the Show, pleaseeeeeee!

I wonder: Is the polar bear a metaphor for Mu Gyul?

These ones are sooo cute!

Now it comes in Autumn too!

You might recognize the pic one below from here. I included it in here so that it'll be a complete set :D

Jang Geun Seuk's SexyBack

Time to check out my other lover (yes, I have many). Just from the title alone, can you hear the fanfare?
Mah favorite JGS look

Actually, he did SexyBack performances in many of his fan-meetings (Seoul, Beijing, Taipei, etc), inducing his fans' nosebleed around the globe. I reckon you can easily search for a better quality one, but I found this video, despitebecause of the grainy quality, was one of his sexiest ever:

What If: In A Mary Parallel Universe
Taken from Dear Cloud's bandmember, Yong Rin's twitter account

Being a Jung In supporter (note: not to be confused with shipper), sometimes...just sometimes, I wonder to myself: "What would it be like if Jung In was the rocker dude instead?" I think the dynamic of the OTP would entirely change.
Kim Jae Wook in real life carries a LOT of rocker vibe (partly because he's a musician himself), and I when I see him I think: "Sex, drugs and rock and roll." I can see him as a rocker, but not a cute rocker (like how JGS played Mu Gyul), more of a brooding one? Something like Mary's drama-within-a-drama's Wonderful Life, if it'll ever be made into one.

Kim Hyo Jin Goes Dominant For Cosmo To Rocker for InStyle

Your ultimate 2 in 1 post! Describes her personality in M3 to a T, don't cha think?
Despite having to hate her in M3, I came to like her as an actress. She really tried to make the best of her scenes despite being reduced to a mentally disturbed ex-girlfriend. Nevertheless, I thank thee, Show. Thank you for introducing Kim Hyo Jin's brimming talent to the masses. Looking forward to see more of her works.

Kim Hyo Jin's a chic rocker for Instyle
Wow.
She really knows how to rock her outfits. Alone they're I-would-never-touch-'em crazy, but on her...it's a different story altogether.

Didn't I Saw That In...?

Perhaps Marry Me, Mary! fans will recognize this jacket:
Yup. Worn by none other than "My Bus" rocker dude
Kang Mu Gyul.

Although,
...who do you think rocked it best? I don't think I can make a choice.

This one is even more (in)famous:
Worn by a million other k-stars:
Words cannot express how much I loathe this dress. It's like the designer decided to make it more modest by (ironically) using a
G-string to cover the neckline.

I first noticed this phenomenon in The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry/Prosecutor Princess:

Chloe Says: At least this one's kinda interesting.

Mary's Wedding Dress

Call me old-fashioned, but when it comes to bridal dresses, I like it white and long. This one's white, but it's...mini. In fact, I hadn't notice that it was suppose to be a wedding gown until I stumbled upon this said article. It looks more like a tutu, no?

But I appreciate that because it's a fairytale-like drama, and the designers and stylist are having a fun time experimenting with different concepts. You can't do that in some Ye Olde Makjang Drama, where everyone looks normal but is in fact crazy inside (except for the two main leads, of course).

If you will recall, Mary wore this Cheongdam-dong mini dress in preparation for her engagement to Jung In (Episode 8). It was custom made by Spoensha's Weddings, making it one of a kind.

According to the designer, it was made short instead of a traditional long dress to emphasize Mary's cute, youthful and innocent image in love, highlighted by the short ruffled skirt embellished with flowers
made of mesh and lace.

About Spoensha Weddings
I checked the clothing sponsor out, and it seemed that it has sponsored EVERY single couple that ever got married in a kdrama. A Woman Who Still Wants To Get Married, Giant, Gold Fish, Pink Lipstick, I Love You Don't Cry, Three Brothers, Don't Hesitate, A Good Day For The Wind To Blow...I could go on and on, seeing how morning dramas usually end with weddings. Total viewership of all the dramas combined is over 90% (kind of a pointless statistic, if you ask me).

The location was also featured in Mary's November 9 broadcast
(it was probably the most unromantic scene ever shot there):
Chloe Says: Very white and *sparkly*
